Changing yarn type/brand?

I'm trying to find a poncho to make for my mom and the ones I see I like (and can do) are on the Lion Brand Yarn website so (of course) the yarns they tell you to use are their yarns.

For yarns like their Wool-Ease Chunky (to make this poncho) If I use the same type of yarn is it ok to change the brand and such?
And would that hold true for most yarns?

I would say that it's perfectly okay to use a different brand of the same type of yarn. I've never had any problems doing so. :XX:

yup yup....just make sure your gauge matches and you should be okay.

I agree. As long as you use yarn of comparable weight, it's fine.
