I ordered my yarn for tubey yesterday (Merino Style) and knit up a guage swatch from some I have have in my stash. I just need to talk my DH into helping me take my measurements and I am then ready to start knitting....(well...once the yarn arrives, that is.)

Oooh, I just found this KAL. I am in--I did a gauge swatch for the Hourglass Sweater from Last Minute Knitted Gifts tonight. I think I may have to do some calculations because the Debbie Bliss Cathay that I have is not quite the right gauge. The row measurements are fine, but not the stitch measurements. I think I'll actually wash the swatch and see if that makes a difference (whoa, a first for me!). I don't want to have to do math! :(
I posted this pic elsewhere, but here's my Tubey yarn--KP Merino Style. The colors aren't really showing accurately, but my MC is Cinnamon, and the CCs are cornflower, asparagus, nutmeg, and hollyberry. I've done my gauge swatches and all is well! I've knit the first 6 inches of the shrug.
since no one was checking out the how to board, im going to post this here:
I'm having a problem with the gauge for the sweater I want to knit. And its giving me a headache!! So, i've decided to ask you smart people. The guage is for 4.5 stitches per inch (18stc=4inches) and I'm getting 5 stitches per inch. using a size 9 needle. So do i go up a size? (pattern calls for size 8 needles...but i still got 5 sts per inch... ) so you see why I have a headache. Thanks!
Ahhhhhh-HA. KK, I *knew* you didn't actually do the math!
KK might be setting herself up for knitting DISASTER But Hildie is here to save the day!!!!!!!!!
How many stitches did you cast on?
Grumble grumble grumble!
Its very hard to calculate how many sts to tell you....you start with a CO of 56, but that's for the back-of-the-neck shaping. You join after several rows & then the rest of the pattern only talks about inc'ing until ther are a certain number of sts between the back 2 of the 4 markers.
If Im making a huge mistake, Ill know fairly soon because I already have 6" of yoke done.
