Bah, I was afraid I was cheating. :( No worries, I'll just have two summer tops at the end of three months.

Okay, thanks, Hildie! I am taking MIL to Joann's Superstore tomorrow so I'll see what they have and if I like anything I'll get a few balls. I realize if they don't have what I end up liking I'll , but... what the hey. I'm not fond of cotton so I'll see about a blend maybe...

I also think it would be nice to have a border/edge.

Okay, so I'd really like to join the next KAL, but kinda nervous. Havent been knitting for too long and never knit a sweater before. And the designing your own makes me really nervous, is this too ambitious a project for me????

Tammy, if you can do socks, you can do a sweater! I started knitting in October and had my first sweater done by the end of February!

No way, tammy, you can TOTALLY do this. Knit, purl, increase/decrease, adding new yarn, and binding off are the only things you need to know how to do. And the designing will be a CINCH... basically, you're just going to pick a lower edging, a stitch pattern, and a neckline. Easy-peasy.

Question: does adding a lace panel or cable panel increase the amount of yarn you should have on hand? I mean, does lace or cable knitting use up more yarn than say, stockinette over the course of a sweater? I can't tell from my stupid little gauges.

Not sure about lace, but I am almost postive that cables will increase your yarn usage.

Hey Hilde- I want to put some side shaping and bust darts into my summer project. Am I going to get in trouble for that? I hope not since that is the only way I will end up with something that fits and I will actually wear.

I like where jhelanee is going in terms of design. That's two that would love the answer to that question.

No way! Of course not! That's the point of designing--so you can tailor it to what fits you!

I' *don't* know how to add darts, though.... I've only done bust shaping with shortrows (and then subsequently frogged because the whole thing was too big anyway).... hopefully someone else will be able to help in that area.

cables WILL increase the amount of yarn you use... and cables also make a thicker (warmer) fabric; that's why it's used in all those Irish fisherman sweaters.

I'm not a lace afficianado..... KK? Ingy?
