Circs question

I read somewhere that you can't make anything in a smaller circumference than the length of circs that you are using--is this true? If something calls for 21' circs and you use 29' circs--will it make a drastic difference? I hate to ask such a stupid question but I've been wondering about that...

well the problem is that either you will stretch the work so much to get it around that it won't fit right, OR your work just won't fit around. And of course if you cast on enough to get around then you will have a rather evident problem in the size of your work being to big for what you are making ....Like putting a hat that will fit on a 16 inch circ on a 24 inch needle.....8 inches bigger in the head is huge!

CRAPOLA! I'm knitting a booga at normal size on 29s and the pattern calls for 16 or 24 inch circs...have I royally screwed up?

well it is a booga not a sweater. you can adjust and make it bigger, but you may need more yarn.

this booga is determined to be bigger but I'm trying to keep it to the original pattern! Maybe I'll just pick up another set of needles and try to move it over w/o dropping all of my stitches.

As the booga is a felted bag, you may not encounter any long term issues.

But generally you should only use circs that are the correct size or smaller than asked for.

well if you do decide to get another set and move it, all you have to do is knit off of the one needle on to the other...shouldn't have any problem with dropped stitches then.

good point...you guys are so smart...do you know how long it would have taken me to figure that out (I'm so embarassed to admit that...yep...I have a graduate degree...) Heeheeheehee....thanks for the tip, w/o it--you'd have heard me cussin all the way from here...
