Yep, just found my Garbage CD...must play paranoid in honor of this store!
One LYS here is kind of strange; I mentioned this forum and some patterns and yarns I'd seen here, and they just looked at me like I'd just been swearing at them! Yes, we can get yarns online, but there's nothing like the hands-on xp of the LYS, and nothing like being in person with other knitters. Knitting is a tactile and very personal activity. I don't think some LYSs understand how important personal contact is. It's that kind of snobbiness and secretiveness that keeps me from going to this one LYS unless I absolutely need something that is a PITA to order online.
One of the staff is really nice, though--she pulled me aside to tell me about another shop, run by a former employee, b/c that other shop sells Noro (I'd asked about it). She whispered it, though, and said she'd get in trouble just for telling me about it, and asked me not to say anything.
She also sat down with me and talked about socks (
) for awhile since she was knitting a pair while working. (I can only dream of such a thing.)
What amazes me about poor CS in some stores is that it drives customers away, whether to other land-based stores or online; shouldn't stores, particularly those like LYSs, which are threatened by superstores like Hobby Lobby, WalMart, etc., want to keep customers in the stores and emphasize CS more? I don't get it.
