I have never been able to make a wearable. Either it comes out too big, small etc; or I give up due to a mistake or not understanding directions. Does anyone know of a really easy pattern for a sweater?? (I mean EASY!!) LOL I was thinking a "from the top down" would be a good place to begin. TIA I need to mention, I'm recently widowed, and on a very limited budget, so a free pattern is my choice.

Reason: additional info
Top-down can be good if fit is an issue, you can try it to see how it's coming along as you go. You can also avoid most seams, which I consider a plus. Here's a search at ravelry http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sear...ilability=free you could start there and narrow it more, say to just pullovers.

the one I use more than any other is The Incredible Custom Fit Raglan
It lets you knit for any size person, using any yarn, with any needle. And it always fits perfectly. It walks you through the whole process with clear directions. And once you get it down, you can add an infinite amount of variety to your designs. I really like it.
