My 23 year old son got size 50 needles for me for Christmas ... Bright Green with Bright Blue Tips ... he thought it was a funny joke .... To his amazement ... I was SO excited and think they are the coolest. At school I am doing a wool, yarn, knitting, spinning theme ... "Books Spin a Great Yarn" ... and I have the needles on display with some REALLY BIG yarn. Students love to pick them up and knit a few stitches. I will take my camera to school today and take a pix!!!

I have a friend who's having a baby... I'm debating buying those speed stix and whipping up a baby blanket using this Lion Brand pattern.

I don't think I would use those for a sweater, like this one, but for something like a baby blanket they might make a kinda long and boring project quick...

yeah, I like that pattern for a blanket, I think you could adjust the colors and size a bit to make a normal blanket.

I've used large needles (35's I think) to make a baby blanket using four strands at once--just a 5 x 5 basketweave pattern with a garter edge. It took an evening.
