Newbie Baby Hat Pattern
Heres a simple pattern I made for one of my babies. The decreases on this hat is really pretty.

Molly's Baby Hat
Size 8 needles
Cotton Tots Yarn
Cast on 50 stitches
This pattern starts at the brim.
Knit every row for 6 rows.
Stocknette stitch for the next 2 1/2 inches (sometimes I do 3 inches)
Decrease as follows.
Row 1 *Knit 5, Knit 2 together* till end
Row 2 Purl
Row 3 *Knit 4, Knit 2 together* till end
Row 4 Purl
Row 5 *Knit 3, knit 2 together* till end
Row 6 Purl
Row 7 *Knit 2, Knit 2 together* till end
Row 8 Purl
Row 9 *Knit 1, Knit 2 together* till end
Row 10 Purl
Row 11 *Knit 2 tog*
Cut yarn, thread needle.
Draw through remaining 6 stitches and seam down.

Awww what a lovely pattern!! And thank you!!!

I might make it about ten stitches bigger and do the same... do you think that'll work? I have a 5 month old neice who is growing out of control!!! :(

Oh your welcome. I love it cause its quick! And so cute. I'll put rib on the brim sometimes, (K1, P1) and want to try the brim with seed stitch on it sometime. I'm making my first on DPNs on my upcoming roadtrip. Ill let you know how it goes.

My two month olds head circumference is 16 inches and the hat circ is 12 inches (its under glass in a shadow box, so its the best I can do.) So if I made it for my baby I would add probably 15 or 20 stitches. Maybe even a little more so she could wear it a little longer, but dont forget to think about how long its gona be cold whereever your sweet baby lives. I guess it just depends on your gauge. So play it by ear.

Let me know how it turns out. Let me know how many stitches you end with. I thought it was 6, but maybe its 9? oops.
