Hi everyone,
I'm new to the site and I've found all of the postings very interesting and helpful so far... I need some advice on backing... I just finished a baby blanket for a friend who's expecting and would like to back it with a soft cotton fabric (just like sweatshirt material). What's the best way to do this? Hand stich or machine? Should I just stitch around the periphery or could that cause puckering in the center? Should it be stitched inside out like sewing a pillow to hide the seams? I've never backed a project before so any advice would be great. Thanks so much! Happy knitting!

I hand-sewed a backing on a "crazy quilt" throw I made. I brought the backing around to the front for about an inch, tucked so it wasn't the cut edge (like the edgings on some blankets you buy) and I like that look. I think, unless it's very small, it should be joined at intervals through the whole thing. Unfortunately, I don't know how, and would also love some advice. I know I should put a stitch at the corner of each square, but what stitch?
Sorry my description's not very good. I'm sure someone on the board will give you a better answer.
