Thoughts on Lendrum DT vs Traveller?
Hello!

I intend on purchasing a spinning wheel in the near future. I think I would be mainly spinning DK weight to bulky yarns, but having the option to spin thinner yarns would be a great plus also. I've been researching wheels online and reading various forums to get a good idea of what I should get. I've narrowed down my choices to the Lendrum DT or the Ashford Traveller (although I think I'm leaning somewhat towards the Lendrum because of the foldability and the slider on the flyer). I know the main advice everyone gives is to try out the wheel before purchasing, but there seems to be no shops nor active guilds near me where I can do so. I would appreciate anyone's input on these two wheels. Thanks in advance!!

The Lendrum wheel is a great one. It has great flexibility and gives you an enormous control over your spinning. I have never tried a Traveler, so I can't comment.

Thanks Carolyn! Besides you, the few people that replied to my question on another forum also recommended the Lendrum. Now it's just a question of WHEN  I can afford to buy it....

I am on a spinning yahoo list and these just popped up today:

Quote:
I have a dilemma...a friend of mine talked me into
buying a single treadle Lendrum last year. I had
tried hers out, and it treadled smoothly enough, and I
loved that it was foldable for travel or storage.
Well, I've found that my own is VERY hard to treadle.
I was using the Fast Flyer, smallest whorl, to spin
some fine Shetland, and my leg got tired and sore
because I was having to push so hard on the treadle.
As I recall, the wheel would rotate 2 1/4 times if I
treadled once and let it go (my Symphony rotates 4 1/2
times). It's pretty much the same with the regular
flyer & the plying head. However, when the driveband
isn't set up, the wheel will rotate very freely and
smoothly. My friend tried mine out, and said it feels
like hers. Maybe I've just been spoiled by my
Symphony.
Quote:
I have the Lendrum folding wheel also. I ran into your problem and
discovered what I had done to cause it. I picked it up to move it to a
different place and (for lack of better terminology) the wheel stretched. I
hadn't tightened one of the knobs enough and once I figured that out, I
pushed the top back down where it belonged which loosened the band around
the wheel which then made the pedalling and spinning so easy.

That one particular knob must be a tension type that can be adjusted for
different drive bands. I do hope this isn't sounding too dumb but maybe you
will understand me enough to be able to try remedying the problem that way.
Quote:
To loosen the tension on the drive band will help some cases....but my flyer
head is as low as it goes, wheel's fairly new and it's the hardest to
treadle wheel I have.
I have no personal experience with them but wanted to pass that along...

Sounds like the person might just be used to another wheel? Or maybe it was more difficult to treadle because it was single treadle? Good to know though, thanks.
