Yarn Choice Help Please

I want to make my DH a dickie and am looking for black sport weight yarn. I want it to be machine washable and dryable. I am not sure what to use or where to get it. We have a Michael's here and that's it, but I have no problem with ordering it online. I don't know what type of yarn to use since I want it to be light weight to wear under flannel shirts sometimes. I am soooo confused! There is too much out there.

I'd probably go with Plymouth Encore just because of the machine wash/dry requirement. It's soft, comes in dk weight, and washes beautifully.

It might be a good idea to use a baby acrylic - those are sport weight, and Bernat makes a lot that are readily available... but not in black :(

]KnitPicks has DK and sport weight cotton -which would be great as far as providing warmth, but not too much- but again, it doesn't come in black.

If you're feeling up to using smaller needles, you could try sock yarn... I think Knit Picks has that in solid black, and it would be just a bit smaller than sport weight.

Red Heart has a black acrylic sport weight I think, but I would have to order it. I don't think I have the attention span for sock weight. I am going to be doing good to get the thing done with sport weight and all that stockinette stitch. Ugg, but he really needs some. I will look at the Plymouth Encore too. I will have to order it anyway :D Anyone want to move here and start a yarn shop? We did finally get a grocery store this fall, even if it is the size of a 7-11 it has good prices, so we aren't totally out in the sticks now :D
