Yarn substitution?

I want to knit this http://www.knitting-crochet.com/meniricar.html sweater for my dad. I can't find this yarn anywhere. I thought maybe I could use this yarn http://store.knitting-warehouse.com/...soft-yarn.html ? Would it work? And how much would I want to get for a large? The pattern site doesn't have yardage, just grams. If anyone can help me with this, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

That yarn isn't made anymore. From the gauge and needles called for, I would guesstimate that the yarn is a worsted weight, or a little thinner, but not a sport weight. I haven't used the Simply Soft, so I can't give an opinion on how that would work out. As for checking on yardage, I would find another similar pattern, and use that to judge.
