I have a question, do I need to find 'cable' needles the same size as whatever knitting needle I'm using? Or is it better to have 'em smaller?

I like to use a DNP in the same size or smaller when I do cable projects. Good Luck!

It's not critical. The size of the stitch really is dependent on the needle you use to knit off the cable needle with. You don't want it too large, though, or you might stretch out the stitch you're picking up with the cable needle.

you don't even have to use a "cable needle" either, to hold the stitches. i grab whatever is around me that is approx the same size - a pen, whatever. =)
