Knitting from two hanks

I bought some Colinette Mohair for a wrap sweater. Because it is hand dyed the label recommends working with more than one hank at a time.

"Try working 2-4 rows from each hank, carrying the yarn up the side."

Can someone explain to me the best way to do this?
