Scrunchable Scarf -- Help!!

I am trying to start a scrunchable scarf, but it is just not looking right. How many stitches should I cast on?? I know it says in multiples of 3, plus 2 extra. I did 24, and then 2 extra, so 26. Is that right? It is just not looking right to me. Help! TIA!

The numbers are right. Are you slipping the first stitch and knitting the last? They're not included in the k2, p1 stitch pattern.

Yep, that's right. The extra two stitches make the edges nice and even.

Okay, I see now!! So I slip the first and knit the last. Do I slip it kwise or pwise? Thanks so much!! :D :D

I always slip PURLwise unless otherwise stated. (As long as you are consistent it probably doesn't matter much though.)

EDIT: I just changed it to PURLwise... I don't know why I put knitwise originally. I need more coffee... :rollseyes:

I slip purlwise unless otherwise stated. Its up to you, I guess! It really makes no difference in this case--however you like the edge to look.

I'm working on one and I accidently slipped the stitches knitwise for the first few rows, so that's what I've continued doing, and it looks fine. It's a different look from slipping them purlwise, but it certainly doesn't look bad.
