how do *you* ssk?

So when I ssk, I slip both sts as to knit. My KO sock pattern has me slip as to knit then slip as to purl. (My anniversary sweater pattern says the same thing but I went ahead and did what I've always done). Amy's decrease videos offer both options and she says that some people think slipping the second stitch purlwise makes for a smoother decrease that mimics k2tog more closely. I need to decide what I'm going to do for these socks (when I get that far, which will be awhile!), and I'm curious about what most people do, and why.

Amy's increase/decrease page says that slipping the second stitch as if to p is neater and a better match for k2tog, so that's what i've been doing.

I've always slipped both stitches knitwise so I'm afraid to try the other way on a pattern because I just know I'll forget when I pick it up again. It just comes so automatically. I like the way it looks, though.

I gotta say, I've learned more here since Jan 1st than in the last two years from books. :D

I kept thinking my sweater pattern was just weird until I discovered the same instructions in my sock pattern and then checked ou Amy's basic decrease techniques to see what she had to say. Haven't watched the videos yet but I read what she wrote - it's labeled "SSK 'improved'". She writes: Lays slightly flatter than SSK. Some prefer it as an even closer match to k2tog. ...I can't make up my mind, I like them both!

I'm going to try it out and see what I think....

I slip as if to knit and then slip as if to purl for only the reason as Amy said it was the "improved version". This is where I have learned everything with the exception of the basic knit and the basic purl, so I just follow whatever Amy says---Follow the knitting leader! :D

I'm trying the knitwise/purlwise combo and I'm liking it. It's not a *huge* noticeable different from knitwise/knitwise, but I can definitely tell it's a tiny bit smoother.
