What specifically don't you understand? If this is from a Vogue magazine, which one is it. If I have it I can look at the pattern.

I don't have that one.

On the first row you have 8 stitches before the chart.

Cont to foll chart in this way, working the p2 panel sts foll chart only and the rem sts in St st, through row 8 of chart-67 sts. Pattern is now shifted to work k7 , p9 rib. Cont in k7, p9 rib until piece measures 14/35 from beg.

It looks like as the chart gets wider, you reduce the number of st st on each side of it, but leave the p2 panel stitches on each side. Does that make sense?

Well sort of but I don't know how many stitches to go in on ea row of the chart. the chart I put on here does not do a good job of displaying the stitches before the chart starts for row 1-8.

what does "leave the p2 panel stitches on each side" mean

Lori

I believe the purl panel stitches are the p, yo, p.

When you read the chart, read it from right to left on right side rows.

On the first row, you'll k, yo, k
On the second and all even rows, purl across
On the third row, you'll k2tog, yo, k3, yo, (slip one, knit one, psso)

Fifth row k2tog, yo, k5, yo, skpsso

On each even row of the chart you'll have two more knit stitches between the yo's.
