Ending a kitchener stitch?
How should I best end a kitchener stitch since there aren't two sets of stitches left. I tried something yesterday on my first sock (I just skipped the steps for the second set of stiches) but there was this large loop kind of thing hanging out from the top stitch so I had to try to pull it to the wrong side and stitch it down.

Thanks for any help!
Tamara

What I usually do, and it doesn't give as perfect as result as I'd like, but for what it's worth...when there is one stitch left on each needle, I insert the needle as if to knit on the front needle, slip that stitch off, as if to purl on the back needle, slip that stitch off, then weave the end in fairly tightly on the inside.

I've only done kitchener on underarms but what I did was work the next knitted stitch (not on the needle, but in the body of your piece) as if it were on the needle. that helps to tie the stitches on the needle into your piece without there being a hole. maybe it wasn't right, but it looked seamless to me.

Thanks for the help guys!

I love that idea of using a stitch from the piece as the extra stitch - I will definitely do that next time.
