recycled yarn

I've just started recycling yarn and I love it.

I bought a mens sweater that was 100% baby alpaca it is so soft. Today I just went and bought a 100% cashmere sweater in the prettiest purple. I have no clue what I am going to make out of them, but I am having so much fun hunting and unraveling them. My knitting has even taken a backside to this.

This is a picture of the baby alpaca yarn, I have already washed and straightened it, some hanks have a bit of a wave to them still but I think they will knit up nice.

How COOL! where did you get the sweaters?
is it a ton of work? I would *love* to try this-but I just wonder if I have the patience!

I got both shirts at value village, but tomorrow I am going to raid our salvation army store. I don't think it's hard work, but it takes time to straighten the yarn. I have found with each sweater I get a little bit better and wasted less yarn. I ended up with 8 oz of the cashmere and I can't say how happy I am with it.

I have two sweaters I want to do this to, but I haven't figured out how/where to start. Do you just pick a seam on the side and snip and rip? How did you wash the yarn? I actually looked at the sweaters today and thought about attempting to pull one out this weekend.

Thanks! I will definitely use that in the future. I realized, after reading her info, that one of the sweaters I wanted to use had "bad seams" and after looking at the other one a little closer, the yarn is very small guage, and I'm not sure what I would use it for. So maybe tomorrow I'll hit up the thrift shop, now that I know to look for good seams! I already looked in my closet...(too bad when I got married I tossed a whole bunch of sweaters, one I specifically recall would have been perfect!)
