Reverse ST stitch?

Why don't the instructions just say "purl" instead of "reverse ST stitch"?

Because you have to both purl and knit to get reverse St st, I would guess. Does the pattern say do so many rows or inches in reverse St st?

It says to work even in reverse St stitch for 1 1/2". It's for a section using eyelash yarn. The eyelash yarn comes out more fully on the purl side than on the knit side. Just before the reverse st stitch section, you knit one round.

According to my Reader's Digest COMPLETE GUIDE TO NEEDLEWORK, the purl side of stockinette stitch is referred to as "reverse stockinette stitch", so I am simply purling for this section in my pattern. But, why can't the instructions simply SAY "purl"?

it dosen't tell you to just purl because you're not purling every row. you are simply putting stockinette on the wrong side of the work. you still have to knit. if it just said purl, then people would be putting garter stitch in that section.

If you're working in the round, that's right, all purls is reverse St st.

Maybe they thought reverse St st sounded less intimidating than 'purl'?

oh, i didn't see the in the round part. I was assuming working flat.
