cast on additional stitches at the beginning of a row
I am making a baby jacket and my pattern now calls for me to cast on 7 stitches at the beginning of a row. i've searched on here and saw that some suggested using the knit on method and i did watch the video. my question is, in the video it shows the new stitches are on the left needle. i'm thinking they should be on the right, because after adding the new stitches i will continue on with my row and they will then be on the right needle (i am right handed and i knit using the english method). am i just making this harder than it really is? can anyone help?
thanks

I would cast them on at the end of the last row--they'd be on the left needle, and then on the next row, knit them. In order for your yarn to be in the right place, I think you have to do it this way.

In other words, I can't see how you'd be able to use your working yarn to cast on the stitches and then continue with the row.

What if you use the cable cast on, Ingrid? I'm not entirely sure that's what it's called, but my roommate taught me how to do it to cast on over a gap. I'm pretty sure that I ended up with the cast on stitches on the right needle and they were not knit until I got around to them again.
I'm probably just totally confused, in which case I apologize and please ignore me.

I thought about that, but wouldn't the yarn come from the end of the knitting and be at the end of the left needle?

Maybe...Sorry, I'm really horrible at thinking about this stuff.
