How do you guys know how much yarn to order from say Knit picks and keep it as stash. What if you don't have enough yarn for a project? Don't you need to know what your going to make before you order yarn?

You could always do what Ingrid does, and just order enough for a large sweater....

I don't bother to hide it. Well, if it comes when nobody else is home. . . :D

HECK no you don't need to know what you're making! Just buy 10 of everything and make sure that you buy 10 of something else that goes with it. Everytime you see a pattern/project that you think you MIGHT want to knit sometime in the next 10 years, buy enough yarn to make in in 3 different sizes in 4 colors. And, most importantly, learn these phrases: "no honey, I had that, remember? I bought it last August!"
"Well, at least I'm not gambling!" and finally "PLEASE! I could buy all this yarn at the yarn store, and pay at least double! I'm saving money!"

Oh, yes, the "But it was 50% off" is always a good excuse!

My excuse is usually, "but I got caught up in the heat of the auction! I couldn't let someone else beat me by a dollar!"
