Help with Garnstudio pattern

I'm going nuts trying to figure this one out.

I'm working on the XL - no matter how I slice it I get 94 stitches not 93 to cast on.

Also, on the diagram - when the pattern switches - row 10 - I just don't get it - it doesn't make sense to me.

When casting on, I place stich arkers every 20 stiches, that way I have less to count to kkep it accurate.
