Every ruined a WIP?
OMG, I gasped when the coffee lid came off as I nestled the cup into the cup holder of my car and Lite White Latte with raspberry flavoring and chocolate melted sprinkles splashed onto the afghan panel that was in my knitting bag! FORTUNATELY, I think it was saved and the splash is at the beginning so I could undo and knit backwards if I have to... but EEEEK!!

Before I started knitting, I would have totally gone into hysterics and had a freaking fit with the coffee shop guy for being such a idiot for not clicking down the lid and while crying and feeling that world had just ended would have most certainly made a total boob of myself over a few hours work and some cheap yarn. Of course I'm exaggerating a little bit, but see.... knitting really does relax you!!!!

I even laughed a little about it when I went back in to return the rag I'd borrowed to clean out my 1 month old car. Having an Element with no carpet really helped here too

Anyway, I had to share and wondered as I dabbed off the coffee if anyone else has ruined or almost ruined a WIP.

OK, I haven't done that but... I am constantly finding my dog on my WIP. She is not a small dog (like Howie) but a great, big cow of a dog - a white with brown spots English Setter who sheds! Plus, to really ... she bent a bamboo needle! I guess given her body weight and warmth, she just kinda... warped it. It now curves ever so slightly. I was not happy!!! I can still knit with it but still... that's just wrong!

One thing to remember: if you're using washable yarn, wash that sucker! I have to wash things that the dog uses for a nest quite often and no one ever complains when the things are gifts.

Good luck and check those coffee lids!

I have a problem with dog and cat hair over alot of my FO's and yarn.

I don't think I ever spilt something on a WIP or FO though, I usually keep drinks 4 ft away from them(I'm weird like that :rofling: ), so no spills ever occur.

Sorry to hear about the afghan though :(

I haven't spilled on a WIP, but I did have an 18-month old grab one off of the table and run in the other room with it, trailing yarn behind him!! I was able to save it, although it took some work. I'm not very good at fixing mistakes, and he had the needle halfway out by the time I caught him.

I got off a city bus with a ball of yarn still on the bus! A good samaratin caught it before the doors closed and gave it back. No reall damage except to my ego and a lot of frogging.

I ruined a sweater with coffee, too. It was a partial child's sweater, so it wasn't too much of a loss. It probably could have been washed if I'd caught it right away, but it sat over the weekend without my noticing it. I just tossed it.

i count five or six items in the past two months ive been knitting, that either the baby or the dog has ruined my WIP. any sane person would have given up the ghost, but i can;t help continuing. :XX:

its heartbreaking though, to see gizmodo dragon with my knitting in his mouth in tatters. i only use metal needles now, because he isnt interested in chewing those to pieces. the plastic ones are like long thin bones as far as he is concerned grrrr

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, I spilled grape juice on the size 52" fisherman sweater I was making for my BIG brother (years ago).
My quick thinkin', fast movin' 4 year old was back with the roll of Bounty towels before I got a word out.
Love that lanolin rich yarn. The juice wasn't absorbed.
And I learned not to eat or drink near my knitting.
