Dyeing Wool with Rit?

Has anyone tried dying wool with Rit dye? I got Lion Brand fishermans and wanted to try black. And I got Dylon permanent fabric dye (they didn't have the other color I wanted in Rit). Will it make bright colors, or will they look faded? Any help would be greatly appreciated. The WOTA yarn I wanted is out of stock, and I just can't wait until it comes in....so I figured I'd try it myself...I'm like that, very impatient :D

I have not used rit on wool. Just on cottons. But it is not very color fast.
Even if you dont notice tint in your wash water the color fades quickly.
Personally I just dont like rit!

Have you tried kool aid dyeing? Its really easy to do!

I like saturated color so I use 1 pkg to 1/2 -3/4 cup water and 1 or 2 tbls white vinegar. Put your skein in a microwaveable container (I buy cheapie disposables) with the ka, water and vinegar.
I usually microwave for about 4-6 minutes on high.

The water will turn clear (really!)
Wash out the vinegary smell with a bit of whatever you use to wash wool (I use dawn) rinse and dry.

I find to colors to be really washable and fade resistant.
I can get a near black (not a true saturated black) with purple blue and orange mixed. So cheap! So fun!

Oooh, the Koolaid dyeing sounds fun! Can you dye one hank of yarn with a few different colors to get a variegated/hand-painted look? If so, how would you do it?

Hmmm, I was avoiding the kool-aid dyeing because I want Black Black, which is why I thought Rit would do the trick. It's a bag, so it's not something that will be washed, other than the felting process.
Knitpicks it out of stock of WOTA coal :crying: and I wanted to try dyeing. I'll give it a shot anyways. It's for a gift, so if it doesn't turn out...I'll just keep it for something else.
