HELP!!! Debbie Bliss Hooded Kaftan from Special knits

I am knitting the Hooded Kaftan from Debbie Bliss' Special knits book .I am at the point of attaching the hood and am so confused it hurts- literally. I have spent hours on this thing and now it really seems to make no sense at all

SO- Has anyone made this and if so - HOW??? I NEED HELP!!!!!! :(

meccablong must have found her answer elsewhere. I'm at a total loss. I did the knitting for this hooded kaftan months before my three month old son was born. I made it for the 6 month size so it's time to get it assembled. Here are the finishing directions:

Sew sleeves into armholes. Join sleeve seams. Join side seams to top of opening. Join hood seam. Sew row ends of front edging to sts bound off at center front. Sew cast on edge of hood to bound off sts at back neck.

I don't have a clue how to do any of it. I've made only dish rags, scarves, and blankets to this point. Please help me with the sleeves to start.

If the sleeves are flat, lay out the sweater face up and line up the sleeves so the center is at the shoulder seam. Then mattress stitch the sleeves to the sweater.

Do the sleeve seams the same way--mattress stitch.

Then, starting at the bottom, seam the sides.

Close the top of the hood.

After that, you should be able to see which row ends attach to the
stitches bound off at the center front--it's hard for me to picture without seeing it.

Then you sew the back of the hood to the neck.

I am in the same place with the hood. According to what I can figure out, there are 18 sitches to be, "eased" into the neck. I am not going to do this. I think I am going to redo the hood and start with 63 stitches, increasing to 81 for the fullness. Otherwise, this just won't fit no matter what--at least as far as I can tell. I have no idea what else to do. Does anyone have an answer to this??? thanks, Ellen Noelle
