OT: Crochet pattern help. I know its not knitting, but...

I need help with this pattern from Red Heart Diamond Trillis crochet pattern. I'm a beginner crocheter, but have crocheted in the past. I do knit and crochet. Anyway. Here is the pattern:

Row 4: Ch 5, sc in ch-5lp, *3dc in next sc, sc in next lp**, ch 5, sc in next lp; rep from * to last sc, end at **; ch 2, dc in last sc; turn.

Can anyone explain this? It would be a big help!! :D I'm mostly confused on the part inside the * 3 dc....**
