garter stitch

i have just descovered knitting (my gran died at christmas and left loads of wool about, so i though rather than sell/bin it i would give it a go, and have now descoveded that i love it).

anyway, i have found a pattern (that i have been told is easy to do) but it envolves garter stitch. can anyone explain to me in simple terms how i can do this please?

the pattern i am hopeing to try is

i would love to start this straight away (as i'm very kean to improve)

Garter stitch is simply rows of knit stitch with no purling. That is a cute sweater!

When asking questions ALWAYS post the name and a link for the pattern if you have it.
