Making a hat question...

I was at Joann's yesterday and they had those hat thingies on sale, 40% of by the way, you know what I mean. The hat guides, gosh it doesn't even say what they are called on the package. Its plastic and round with the knobby things on it.

Can you tell I'm quite new to this!! :rofling: :rofling:

Anyway, do I really need one of those things to make my first hat? Or should I return it?

I suppose you can use one to make a hat, but you don't need one to knit a hat. There are a great many more patterns for knitting hats than for making one on a loomy thing.
