What does "make 1 st" mean?
I saw this beret pattern having the follwing line:

STITCH EXPLANATION:


M1 (make 1 st)

what does that mean?

There are several different kinds of increases available. If you look at the Abbreviations Explained tab above Amy has videos on increasing (near the bottom on the left).

Basically you use the stitch below to create a new loop and knit into the back of that.
