How much yarn for a scarf?

I have 3 50g balls of beautiful black/purple yarn that I'd like to make a scarf out of, however I'm not sure if it will be enough. I don't know the brand or anything as it was given to me and I don't think I'll be able to get any more. The yarn is quite thick and slightly 'bobbly'.

Will 3 balls be enough to make me a decent length scarf in a loose kind of style, or will I need to match it up with another colour?

I'd have thought 150g would be plenty. I made a scarf using 3 balls of whisper wool and it made a scarf long enough to fold in the middle and tuck the ends through the fold - do you know what I mean?

Or you could wrap it round your neck fully once or two times.
