I tried spinning on a drop spindle a couple of years ago, but I wasn't too good at it (plus I didn't have enough patience for it). I still liked the idea of being able to feed my yarn addiction and creativity, so I made the plunge a couple of months ago and bought a spinning wheel. My first handspun came out eh, and I almost gave up, cuz I was having so much trouble with drafting evenly and keeping the wheel rotating. Also, I produced these cone-y globs of fiber while spinning that I couldn't do anything with, which wasted so much valuable fiber! But I've finally figured out what I was doing wrong (not pre-drafting enough and also drafting weirdly), and I'm happy to say that I am finally spinning faster, better, and with practically no waste! Yay! Below is a pic of some plied yarn I spun up from some of my handpainted merino roving. I can't wait to knit it up into something warm for the winter!
