thumb gusset on fingerless glove
Can someone put this into clearer language for me? Why I am I reading this as 5 stitches in front of marker when done and not the 3 stated in pattern?

Round 1: On needle #1- increase 1 stitch, knit one stitch, increase (pick up and knit) 1 stitch and then place the marker (there are 3 stitches in front of the marker). Knit the rest of the stitches.

Thanks

If you do a M1 increase, knit one stitch and then pick up and knit one stitch, you will have only three stitches since the M1 doesn't use a stitch and you're creating a new stitch with the pick up and knit one.

I agree. If you use a kfb (knit into front and back of stitch) to increase, you will end up with 5 stitches before the marker. If you are unsure of how to do the various increases, have a look here. I would use either M1R or M1L, depending on which way you want the stitch to slant.
