what does "m" mean
I am trying to understand a chart I am reading. It is for a basketweave poncho. Reading right to left it says as follows:

- = purl

l = knit

m=Make 1 as a knit st.

m l l m l l l l

What does "m" mean? Do I just knit a stitch or do I increase a stitch....Help!

It means "make a stitch." Go here and watch Amy's video on different ways to make a stitch; see which works best for your project. Her videos are fantastic!
