How do you work end of row....turn (1 st remains unworked)?

Hi Everyone,

I'm a newbie to this great forum. I will come back later and introduce myself nicely later but right now I have a question I would like to ask you if I may.

I am going to be knitting the Mountain Stream Scarf, however in reading over the pattern I do not understand the following under the "Turn First Corner":

Row 1: sl1, k2, yo, k6, turn (1 st remains unworked)
Row 2: sl1, k9, turn
Row 3: sl1, k2, yo, k6, turn (2 sts remain unworked)
Row 4: sl1, k9, turn
Row 5: sl1, k2, yo, k2tog, k1, turn (3 sts remain unworked)

I don't understand what do you do with the stitched that remain unworked?

don't do anything with it. Just turn the work and start knitting like all is normal. there is a reason they have you leaving those stitches unworked which will become apparent as you are going along. haven't seen that pattern so i am not sure what element it is creating for you (someone more experienced could tell you) but it is doing something very prettiful to your work i am sure...

You are making what's called 'short rows' by leaving stitches unworked. It's likely forming some kind of shaping, and like brendajos said, it will become apparent as you follow the pattern.
