Patons Classic Wool vs. Plymouth Encore

Are these similar in gauge? I wanna make the Aran Rose pullover in the Spring Interweave Knits.

Actually, I'm knitting a scarf right now with both of them. My MC is Plymouth but my CC is Patons. I find that the Plymouth is slightly larger (fatter, wider?) than Patons but that it doesn't make too much of a difference. They both call for a size 8 needle but I think Patons looks much better with a 7.
