Need Help with Lace Please

Here are the lines of a 4-pattern repeat that I'm not sure I'm interpreting correctly:

Row 1 and 3 (WS): Purl
Row 2: K1, *yo, K2tog, rep from * across
Row 4: * SSK, yo, rep from *to last st, end K1

Then there is a note in the pattern that says to keep 1 stitch at each edge in St st and remaining sts in Lace Pat (above).

So - on Row 2 - should I be doing K1 (for St st edge) AND K1 to begin the lace Pattern

Or is that stockinette edging accounted for in this direction??? :thinking:

It doesn't seem like the edge stitches are included in the pattern since the row starts with an ssk. I would add one to each end, because the ssk at the beginning will make the edge funky.
