Converting hat pattern - from in-the-round to flat?
I have a skein of Woolease Thick 'N Quick that I got at a garage sale, and I'd like to make a hat for someone with it.

The pattern I want to use (Click Here) calls for size 13 circular needle (16").

I don't have these... I hate to buy them JUST for this darn project.

Can I use size 13 straights instead? Would I need to add a stockinette edge stitch to each end for seaming purposes, or how would that work?

I also know I would need to convert the stitch pattern... instead of K3,P3 for EACH round, it would be K3P3 for round 1, K3P3 for round 2, etc... is that right? I'm casting on an even number of stitches.

With K3P3 ribbing, after the first row, I could just remember to knit the knits and purl the purls, right? That's SO much easier for me to remember!!

TIA for any help!

Sounds like you've pretty much got it all figured out. Depending on how you do your seams, you may want to add 1 stitch to each end for the seam.
