Knit along with D Macomber Help

Hi! I am basically a self taught beginner. I am making the baby blanket "Only the Finest for Amelia" on page 14 of the "Knit Along with Debbie Macomber, The Shop on Blossom Street" book. I am doing ok with the body of the blanket...but am confused by the instructions for the lace edging border on page 19. It reads:

Cast on 11 sts loosely.

ROW 1: Slip as if to purl, K1 * YO, P2 tog, (K, P, K) all in the next st; repeat from * across: 17 st.

I understand all of it until you get to the part: (K, P, K) all in the next st;

Is there anyone out there that can try to explain this to me? Thank you SO much! Denise

To k,p,k in one stitch, knit the stitch as normal, but don't slide it off. Bring the yarn forward between the needles and purl into the same stitch, again not sliding it off. Bring the yarn to the back between the needles and knit into the stitch again and then slide the stitch off. You'll have 3 stitches where you had one.
