Yarn like strips of fleece - does this exist?

I was at WalMart today and noticed some blankets (I think they were Home Trends brand, whatever that brand is that a lot of their super cheap house stuff is) that were knitted.

One was an acrylic and it looked like some sort of a feather and fan pattern.

The other was polyester, and it basically looked just like strips of fleece fabric used to knit what appeared to be stockinette.

The yarns were super bulky and the knit was rather loose. But, I thought it was a cute idea to make a small lap blanket with a fleece-like material... might be nicer than using an acrylic.

I was wondering if anyone had heard of a yarn like that? I mean, literally, it was just like a big strip of polyester fleece. I'm curious how much it would cost... might be worth considering making a blanket for myself!

I just saw a fleece yarn the other day, but I can't remember where I saw it. :(

I did some searching, and I found it... Tahki makes a yarn called, I think, Panda, which is polyester and WEBS says it's just like knitting with fleece, essentially.

It was less than $5 for 50 grams, but it just seems so much cheaper to go with Knitpicks Suri Dream if I'm going to make a lapghan, because you get like 225 yards for less than $4 with that yarn.

Still, the idea is cute, wish I had some dough to blow on it!

A-ha!! I had a light-bulb moment while checking the board and remembered where I saw the fleece yarn... in the Interweave Knits mag that I got the other day.

It's called "PJ's" and according to the ad is "a machine washable printed polar fleece fabric cut into narrow strips." It's made by Knit One, Crochet Too, Inc.

We carry it at Chix.... I wanna start looking for a "boxer shorts" pattern... would be VERY cute!
