Faggot Stitch Failure (yay, I think I got it now!)
Well, I'm still a knitting newbie, but I wanted to try this faggot stitch scarf pattern I found.

Well, it's not working and I have no idea why. Here's what it always looks like. I've unraveled and started over about 10 times so far.. argh!

Can someone use their purls of wisdom to help me

Which pattern are you following? Faggot lace patterns are basic lace patterns and it's my understanding that there are several in this category. The patterns are comprised of a yo and a decrease, but this can be implemented in a few ways, which one are you using?

Hmmm... I wonder if trying a looser gauge would help. It's a pretty wild guess on my part, but it seems like the problem might be that the fabric is just knit too densely. Maybe you could try bigger needles to see whether that gives you a lacier effect.

Blocking could very well open it up, that is, if you are using a fiber that responds to blocking.
I agree with Jane, perhaps a larger needle size.

Hmmm, why aren't you sure about the yo, k2tog? How are you doing it? Let's find out about that 1st, okay?

I was just unsure about it because I had never tried it before :-)

Ok, re-knitted with the largest needle in my susan bates pack, 13 (8mm)
I messed up toward the top, but I think I may have the general idea here:

Yay, thanks for the help!

It does seem a bit funny as far as the sides and such go. Is it supposed to be like that? Will it sorta straighten out as it gets longer?

Now off the practice yarn and time to start with the plush soft yarn!~
