WHICH CAST ON?

I was wanting to do the opposite of a garter stitch scarf which would be a purl stitch scarf. Now, i was going to use the long tail cast on, but it would create an already-knitted row. I dont want that. I have looked at the purl long tail cast on and it confuses me. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Do you mean that you are going to purl all stitches? If so, that also creates garter stitch.

so can i still use the long tail caston even though it gives an already-knitted row?
