Reversible patterns for Afghans?
How do I know whether a given pattern will the same on both sides?

Any suggestions for a nice Afghan pattern (I love cables, laces, anything that adds textures) that is also reversible? I'm browsing Pattern Central now.

:P

Check here.... http://knitting.about.com/library/blstitches.htm for reversible stitch patterns. There's a cable pattern that looks pretty good on both sides, not all of them do, but I don't know where to find it. Might be in a book....

In addition to the ones above, the Moss Lozenge stitch pattern is reversible. It is in the Barbara Walker books, in one of the Vogue Stitchionary books, and I also found it online free here

It is just combinations of knit and purl stitches.

It's done over 12 stitches so you can make it any size you want in multiples of 12. I have done it with a worsted weight on size 9 needles (you can see what that looks like here and as a baby blanket in pink with DK weight yarn on size 6 needles.

Any of the pattern books might have some more ideas.

Thanks for those great links/suggestions!

When I clicked on the patterns listed on about.com, I didn't get any pictures. I couldn't find a problem with my browser. Do you see pictures?

Thanks again!

Not all of the stitch patterns at about.com have pictures, but I remember at least *some* of the links having them. Dunno what happened.

Here's another link that does have pictures. http://www.fuzzygalore.biz/patterns/reversible.shtml

I thought of another pattern that's reversible - it's the Fisherman's Rib or Half FR, where you knit all stitches. It's also makes kind of a thermal knit.

CO even number of stitches, knit across first row.

Every row after that - k1, k1B, repeat across to last 2 stitches - k2.

It's very easy, you can knit a few inches in a swatch to try it out.

Hi,

I am no longer at About.com. All photos are gone as well as most resources.

The Stitch Library has moved to http://www.knittingonthenet.com/stitches.htm

I am in the process of putting up all the patterns and other information on the new site. There are currently more than 360 free patterns.

Thanks!
