I was hired as a knitting instructor at Hancocks!
Hi all. The other day, I went to Hancock Fabrics (like JoAnn's) to pick up some denim patches. I happened to ask if they offer knitting courses, and they said no, but that they're always getting knitting questions. So I marched myself up to the manager and introduced myself. We had a meeting today, and I brought FO's and a project proposal. She was thrilled, and I am now the new knitting instructor at the store!

Get this - I actually got to go yarn shopping for free in order to make sample projects for the advertisement poster. I even found a merino/cashmere/acrylic blend that is similar to DB Cashmerino. I did buy some acrylic fun fur for the accent on a scarf, but we won't tell anyone, will we?

I will be teaching a Beginning Knitting class, one on hats, on socks and on washcloths. Plus, I will organize a weekly stitch and bitch. Cool stuff. And I'll still be able to recommend my private knitting instruction under my business name!

It was a good day, and I thought I would share all this with you guys. I've learned a lot on this site from each poster. Thanks!

Way to go! Good for you for having such initiative. I am so jealous of the fringe benefits!

There is no right way to knit; there is no wrong way to knit. So if anybody kindly tells you that what you are doing is "wrong," don't take umbrage; they mean well. Smile submissively, and listen, keeping your disagreement on an entirely mental level. They may be right, in this particular case, and even if not, they may drop off pieces of information which will come in very handy if you file them away carefully in your brain for future reference. ~Elizabeth Zimmerman

Wow! Congratulations! I'd love it if my local Hancock Fabrics would offer knitting classes.

Alison, what SPECTACULAR news How cool are you?! WTG taking the initiative and seeking the manager, how exciting! Can't wait to hear how it goes!
Our Hancocks doesn't offer any knitting classes, or anything, really, it does have a nice size section for yarn and knitting/crochet things, though.
I'm so excited for you Wish you were at my Hancocks, it's just around the corner and a knit nite would be great!
