how to join in?
Hi Everyone,

I have never had to do this yet as I am a new knitter and have only knit one skein rectangle items so far.

I am knitting a rug with fabric strips and need to join in a new ball of "yarn". How do I do this? Do I do it preferably at the beginning of a new row?

What if it happens in the middle of a row or should I avoid this and plan accordingly?

Thank you a bunch!

Have a look at Amy's videos, under basic techniques. There are many ways to join in new yarn, it's up to you. Most techniques can be done anywhere in the row, but most will tell you it is better to do it at the end of the row.

One more question. After watching the video, I notice that you will have extra stitches (3) to be exact since Amy recommends knitting the new and the old yarn together for 3 stitches. I am confused. Will you now have 3 additional stitches on your needles for the rest of the item/garment?

Thanks again.

No, on the next row, you knit these double stitches together. The old yarn and the new yarn are "one" stitch.
