mohawk cap
my b.i.l. wants a crazy hat for Christmas and he wants me to knit it with a fuzzy mohawk. I was thinking I would just knit a regular hat then pick up stitches and prolly use crochet to make a raised band and then add fuzzy yarn or make lots of loops and then cut them. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, or a pattern. He wants it to be absurd, because it's for snowboarding and he wants his friends to be able to see him wherever on the mountain. Silly brother in law. tia.

Not a pattern, but here is a picture that might help!

I wouldn't pay $105.00 for it.

That's hideous! And there's no way I'd pay $105 for it either. anyone else have any ideas? any other crazy ideas, like adding pom poms all over it, he just wants something crazy to make people say "what the *&^% is that?"

You could always take one of the kids patterns that is a pumpkin, strawberry, jester, dinosaur etc and make it big enough for an adult.

A girl friend of mine made a dinosaur hat and use the same pattern as in Stitch n Bitch for the cat ears hat. She just made cat ears of increasing and decreasing sizes from front to back (like a mohawk) and did them in a bright color (some of them with dots etc) and added an I-cord at the back for the tail and made the tail with another 'ear' at the end like the ones on the end of the i-cords for the devil hat in the stitch n bitch...

turned out REALLY CUTE!

good luck!! and have fun!!!

Well, if he happens to be a Futurama fan, he might appreciate this. I'm thinking of doing one for Halloween. I've also seen a hat that looks like a giant hand, and another one (an infant pattern, I think, but could probably be upsized), that was called Viking chicken hat or something. It looked like an upside-down plucked (headless) chicken, so the legs were like the horns, if you can imagine it. Sorry I don't have links, but if you're interested, a little googling could probably dredge up those patterns for you.
