stockinette beanie brim question
So I want to make a couple of beanies for my boys, like the one I seem to see every man and boy wearing these days. But the ones I see (non-handmade) all seem to be completely stockinette stitch. I know that's not possible for handmade because the brim will roll. I like roll brim hats, but that's not what I'm after with these beanies.

I know I can do a ribbing, a garter brim, or a seed stitch. I'm currently planning a 1x1 rib. But I'm just wondering: how on earth do the non-handmade ones not need a non-stockinette brim? Is there some way to hem them to keep them from rolling? I'd be up for hemming if it meant I could do the whole cap in stockinette....

I bet they are either hemmed or double knit.

So if I hemmed or did double-knitting, would that allow me to do all stockinette? And, if so, which of the two would you recommend?

Oooh, I was just looking at the We Call Them Pirates hat and it is all stockinette (except one row), and it's hemmed. Think I'll do it! (not the We Call Them Pirates, but the concept of a stockintte, hemmed beanie).
