4X4 ribbed hat decreases
I'm making a baby hat in the round that is in 4x4 rib. It is 64 stitches around. How should I do the decreases on the top? I was looking for a pattern that was similar to what I am doing, but couldn't find one. I thought I would start by k2tog on each of the 8 knit ribs on the first round. What should I do next? I need to do something on the purl ribs...can I p2tog? I was planning on decreasing to the last 8 stitches or so and then just pulling the stitches tight and putting a pom pom or knitted flower on top.

yes, I'm a newbie, and yes I should have followed a pattern, but I was just trying to be creative....

You can purl 2 tog. I'd reduce the 4 x 4 to 3 x 3 and then 2 x 2, 1 x 1. You're on the right track.
