Can any one tell me the deal with bringing knitting needles on airplanes? I'm using #9 bamboo circular needles for what I'm working on now but I don't want to risk bringing them if they will be confiscated.

closer would definitely be good.
when i flew to lackland for my brother's graduation from BMT at the end of april, i took my bamboos to work on a dishcloth on the plane. i had no problems whatsoever. i know other KHers have had problems. it may depend on the airline and where you're going. of course, it could just be the individual security people, too.

did you fly out of RDU? If so, then maybe I'll risk it...

yep. that's the first time i've tried to take needles on a plane. i just left them in my bag and didn't say anything about them. i did the same thing on my return flight. maybe i just got lucky.

Sandy,
Here's what I made with some of the yarn you sent me.
She really liked the horse!!!
Thanks!!!

The cat pattern is from the "World of Knitted Toys" by Kath Dalmeny. A great book - the patterns are huge!! The horse took 1 1/2 Skeins! The cat I'll be making is smaller than this one (from the same book):

Sandy, thanks again! I'm going to try to go to the SAFF! It looks fun!!

Sarah_NC,
I flew recently to Wisconsin and they had no problems with my knitting needles. Heres a link from the RDU site about knitting needles:
http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtrav...rial_1252.shtm
It wouldn't hurt to be prepared, but I would take the needles.
