What does work 3 together mean in a moss stitch pattern?
Hi all

I am working from a pattern for the first time, it is a hat worked in moss stitch (think you call it seed stitch in the US?) and now that I'm up to the shaping part I'm a bit stumped by the instruction "(work 6 moss stitch, work three together) continue to end of row"

Obviously if it were a plain row of knit or purl, 'work three together' would mean knit them, or purl them. But as it's alternate knit and purl, do I just treat the three stitches as if they were all the same and knit (or purl) through them as if they were just the next stitch in the row regardless of the fact that they are three different stitches? ie just push the needles through them all and knit/purl them as if they were one stitch?

I hope this makes sense!

cheers

I would be inclined to knit the three together if the two outer stitches were knit or purl them together if the two outer stitches were purl so that the rhythm of the moss/seed stitch wasn't lost.

Knit or purl them as for whatever that stitch is supposed to be in the moss. Like if the 6 sts were k,p,k,p,k,p, then your next stitch would be k, so you'd k3tog. Likewise if the sequence was reversed, p,k,p,k,p,k, your next would be p, so p3tog.
